Before a trip or move: check your municipality's hazard map (hazard map / hazamap) for flood and tsunami evacuation zones, and download an alert app (JMA's official app, Yahoo! Bousai Sokuho, or NHK) so you receive Earthquake Early Warning pushes in English or with visual cues. During a quake: drop, take cover under sturdy furniture, and hold on until the shaking stops — don't rush outside.
