Late March–early April for cherry blossoms along the Okawa river and November for autumn colors in Minoo. Summers (July–August) are hot, humid, and among the most intense in Japan.
Kansai's rechargeable IC card works on Osaka Metro, JR, private railways, and buses — and is interchangeable with Suica/PASMO anywhere in Japan. Add a digital ICOCA to Apple Wallet before you land.
The Midosuji line connects Shin-Osaka Station, Umeda, and Namba/Dotonbori in about 15 minutes. Most attractions sit within walking distance of a metro stop.
From Kansai Intl (KIX): ~50 min to Namba on the Nankai Airport Express, or ~30 min to Shin-Osaka on the JR Haruka. From Itami (ITM), a domestic-only airport: ~25 min to Umeda by limousine bus.
Two to three days covers the highlights: Dotonbori/Namba food crawl, Osaka Castle and Shinsekai, plus a day for Universal Studios Japan if you're visiting. It also works well as a base for day trips to Kyoto, Nara, or Kobe.
Slightly, especially for hotels and street food. Restaurant meals and transit are similarly priced to Tokyo, but Osaka has a strong reputation for good food at low prices.
Osaka is a better base — it has more nightlife and lodging options, and Kyoto is only about 15 minutes away by shinkansen or 45–55 minutes by regular train.
Kansai International (KIX) handles international flights; Itami (ITM) is domestic-only but closer to central Osaka. If arriving internationally, you'll land at KIX.
Major stations and tourist spots have English signage and some English-speaking staff, but Osaka locals are known for being more talkative and willing to help than the national average — even across a language gap.
